We grow when we encounter obstacles, when life is easy we can become complacent. We all have days where we want to scream at the world, "common life, just cut me a break." When I was diagnosed with cancer, I remember the moment distinctly, I was driving down a grid road and pulled over to take the phone call from my doctor. After hanging up I remember the feeling of shock, my husband had just left me and I was already overwhelmed and feeling alone, I remember screaming at the top of my lungs, "you've got to be f***in kidding me". But my life wasn't designed to be easy, I was destined to be pushed to my limits so I would truly know my strength and my worth. Life is going to hit you hard, sometimes over and over again, but those are the moments we get to prove exactly how strong we are and all that we can overcome. Co-parenting is one of the hardest things to do after divorce. Often times, there is hurt, anger and sadness from the divorce and people become vengeful looking to "get back", at the person who caused them pain. Remembering that children should never be used to manipulate or hurt your spouse is key. Your children deserve love and respect. You may no longer love or even like your co-parent, you may hate the choices they are making, but they are your child's parent and your child loves them. Descartes said "I think, therefore I am." Let's simplify this existential philosophical idea and put it this way. "I think I can't succeed, therefore I won't ", "I think I'm not good enough, therefore I am not", "I think I'm not smart enough, therefore I will never learn". On a very basic level this statement becomes more about identity instead of just existence. The unconscious mind is super powerful, and besides handling all of our bodily functions it is also always searching for evidence to support the belief system you tell yourself. So if you believe you are not good enough for someone, your unconscious mind will look for ways for that to be true and you will always live with the fear that someone can't see your value. I prefer to reframe my self talk into the positive. Example: "I wonder if he/she will like me enough? Well if they don't that's their loss because I am a great catch with lots to offer the one who will see my true worth!" When we reframe our self talk into the positive to support ourselves we rewire our unconscious belief system to work FOR us instead of against us. Self love and a healthy mindset is the goal to a happier more successful life.
